6 Long-Term Benefits of Investing in Employee Wellness Programs - Workology

6 Long-Term Benefits of Investing in Employee Wellness Programs - Workology 6 Long-Term Benefits of Investing in Employee Wellness Programs This post is sponsored by PSECU, a Pennsylvania-based credit union. See our FTC disclosure at the end.   Its been a long time since employers first began to offer health insurance to their employees, and a lot has changed since then. For one thing, health experts now know that preventative care is more cost-effective than medical treatment. And, of course, preventing disease also saves people from unnecessary suffering. Thats why many employers adopt employee wellness programs. These wellness programs provide everything from free gym memberships to workplace nutrition counseling, all geared toward cultivating healthy lifestyles. 6 Long-Term Benefits of Investing in Employee Wellness Programs Here are six long-term benefits of designing an employee wellness program. Healthier Staff Of course, the biggest perk of offering an employee wellness program is that the entire staff becomes healthier. When a program provides healthy eating options, makes it easier (and cheaper) to get to the gym, and enlists an on-site health expert to consult with employees, staff members receive all the tools they need to live long, healthy and happy lives. Thats a reward for the effort all on its own! Improved Atmosphere Many employers have heard some buzz surrounding the concept of company culture lately and for good reason. Employees today look for more than just a paycheck. They also want to spend the majority of their weeks in a place where they feel fulfilled and valued. When a company rolls out an employee wellness program, the  program may boost employee engagement, thereby elevating the companys culture.  Ep. 131- Culture Conversations: How to Create and Foster a Company Culture talks more about how to achieve this.   Decrease in Turnover If staffers are happy and healthy, theyre less likely to seek employment elsewhere. So when a boss offers staff members the benefits of an employee wellness program, they might find that they have  less and less turnover  and more and more employees who feel truly invested in the workplace. Crack the formula to employee turnover.   Productivity Boost When someone eats well and exercises regularly, they enjoy more energy and a clearer mind. So it makes sense that an employee wellness program could help to improve a work teams productivity. When they feel better, theyre able to work harder and more efficiently! Drop in Healthcare Costs Companies blow a good portion of their profits on health insurance for their employees. While this expenditure is, of course, a necessary and good practice, it doesnt have to be such a costly investment. Employee wellness programs may help to prevent or manage lifestyle-related diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, which could ultimately save money on health insurance. Whats more, the healthcare system as a whole will benefit from fewer hospitalizations and lower treatment costs. Extra Perk for Potential Hires If a companys recruiters have a hard time nabbing new hires, the added bonus of an employee wellness program might provide an edge over competitors. When compensation looks relatively the same between two positions, young, health-focused recruits are more apt to go with a company that values their well-being over one that doesnt. Remember, an employee wellness program also makes a companys culture look more appealing. For any employer who has been on the fence about launching an employee wellness program, theres no time like the present to take the leap. The return on the investment will make the endeavor well worth it. How to Ace Your Next A-Level Essay - 3 Essay Writing Tricks

Step by step instructions to Ace Your Next A-Level Essay - 3 Essay Writing Tricks In case you're taking an exposition based A-Level subject, for example, English Literature, History, Geography, or Religious Studies, at that point you should have the option to compose executioner papers. Papers are utilized in tests to decide how well a competitor can pass on and develop their thoughts, as it's critical that you realize how to compose an incredible exposition â€" significantly under time imperatives. Here, we're going to see 3 paper composing stunts so you can pro your next essay.Trick 1: Stop Grand-Standing â€" Essay Writing TricksGrand-standing for the most part happens in the initial sentence of an exposition, and is an expression or proclamation that makes strong, clearing claims. Here's a case of great standing:Since the beginning of time, individuals have thought about being human. While this expression isn't actually bogus, it adds nothing to your exposition. You need to establish a solid first connection in any article, thus you should get straight to the po int of your contention. Instead of showing off, attempt to head straight into your presentation by clarifying what your paper will be about.Bonus Tip: The best presentations are shorter ones! Attempt to confine first experience with a couple of sentences so you have the opportunity to compose the remainder of your essay!Trick 2: It's All in the PlanningIn a test, you may be enticed to charge straight into your answer. Maybe you have the ideal reaction in your mind, and simply need to make a plunge. One moment! While you may have a smart thought presently, it's anything but difficult to lose center and go off course. This is the reason you have to make an arrangement, and stick to it.For longer article questions, with possibly 45 minutes to an hour for your answer, attempt to spend somewhere in the range of 5 and 10 minutes arranging. During arranging, make sense of the following:What side of the contention you're going to arrive on (for example 'For' or 'Against');Each step or passa ge of your essay;Potential insights and statements that can bolster your contention (compose these in short-hand, don't stress over composing a full statement in your plan). How your contention will conclude.Once you have an arrangement, you have to adhere to it. This can't be focused on enough, since your arrangement will keep you on-course to your decision. On the off chance that new good thoughts ring a bell, possibly include them in the event that they are expressly applicable to your contention. Talking about which… Tip 3: Stay RelevantOne of the greatest mix-ups an applicant can make in an article based inquiry is to go off course, or neglect to respond to the inquiry. In your arranging stage, painstakingly read the inquiry to ensure that you completely comprehend what it's truly inquiring. Possibly start your answer when you're away from this.Make sure that each purpose of your contention is pertinent to what the inquiry is posing. In a test, you don't have the opportunity t o go off on extravagant digressions: keep it basic, direct, and center around what the inquiry is asking. Conclusion â€" Essay Writing TricksThere you have it â€" three article composing stunts for composing executioner expositions. How Can Employers Better Accommodate Disabled People - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

How Can Employers Better Accommodate Disabled People - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach How Can Employers Better Accommodate Disabled People? According to Marketwatch, one out of four employees either are or will become physically disabled in some way or another. Its about time that employers become more knowledgeable about their work and how they overtly, as well as subtly discriminate against employees. Ways that employers subtly discriminate against their disabled employees Its not as if most employers are heartless individuals who dont always care about their employees with disabilities, its often more a case of not realizing all the barriers that stand in the way. A perfect example is a business that rents or owns an older building that doesn’t provide curbside easements for entering the business with a wheelchair or no ramps that provide easy access to small flights of stairs. Businesses, including those that offer public accommodations such as restaurants often just fail to realize there is a problem at all. Discriminating against people with disabilities the sly way The Huffington Post, in June of last year, gave a number of examples of discrimination against disabled people. Wendy Lu, writing for Huffington at reports how she, a disabled journalist, was held back from working as a reporter by arbitrary job requirements like: The ability to reach, bend, lift, push, pull and carry a minimum of 25 lbs The ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm Required ability to sit for an extended period of time up to a full 8-hour shift It was only because the writer was able to gain traction from many reporters and disabled advocates that the company quickly removed all extraneous requirements for all of their job postings. Lu noted that the reporters job she was interested in was not the only job that required extraneous skills. A search of, for example, Zip Recruiter revealed 300 jobs that required the ability to type, even though computer programs that type via voice recognition are readily available and are a perfectly reasonable accommodation for those who are able-bodied otherwise but cannot type. There were nearly 1000 jobs that required people to carry 25 lbs, even though roll carts make that an unneeded skill for most office jobs. Most of those extraneous requirements are not deliberate attempts to keep disabled employees out, but rather simple ignorance of how problematic the requirements may be for certain people. Companies should make sure they are, at a minimum, at least complying with local regulations requiring handicap accommodations if not exceeding these requirements. Knowing when and where to add simple features like bathroom grab bars is critical. They are easy to overlook but an absolute requirement for many people to get around. One of the ways that companies can change that policy is to have their HR Department become absolute experts at accommodation. HR should know of every technological advancement that allows handicapped workers to obtain jobs and should do a thorough analysis of every job need in the company to ask, can we open this job up to everyone? Once HR has done a thorough analysis of all the jobs opened, they should make a genuine attempt, on a recurring basis, to hire disabled employees. Rather than wait for them to show up, they should contact the State Employment Bureaus and all social agencies that serve the disabled, to announce we are hiring. Two very good reasons why they should do this is that government agencies often offer thousands in Work Opportunity Tax Credits for hiring the disabled and that disabled people, knowing how difficult it is to get on with a good employer, are some of the most loyal employees a company can find. If a company does not know about these employee credits, HR has a responsibility to let the executives of the company know. There are many ways a company can add and keep employees with disabilities, but perhaps the greatest way is to demonstrate that in the world of employment, the disabled are not the exception nor the non-exception to the rule. While disabled people may need a little accommodation here or there, disabled people do not want the world. They dont want to feel special or that they are being excessively accommodated. They just want to be one of the team. That means they expect to compete for competitive jobs, not be given them, and they expect to be held to generally the same work standards. The more the disabled are treated the same at work, the more they feel invested into the company as it grows in strength. The long and short of it Be very careful and know the law when it involves public accommodation. Be cognizant that disabled people may require a little extra help from technology, and above all, make disabled people part of your team. Youll be happy you did in many ways and your overall team will be stronger.

Demand for EVs solar creates challenge for UK National Grid energy networks

Demand for EVs solar creates challenge for UK National Grid energy networks Demand for EVs solar creates challenge for UK National Grid energy networks Image Source: PixabayAn influential UK economic think tank has predicted that an imminent surge in demand for electric cars and solar panels could spell serious trouble for the UK National Grid and energy networks and consumers throughout  the UK.“Political parties need to outline how the large scale energy the UK needs and the small scale energy people want, can work better together.”Warning that government was being outpaced by technology and consumer empowerment, the Green Alliance is urging government action on managing the UK National Grid to prevent drops in voltage, blackouts, and damage to electronic equipment arising from the strain that car charging and solar power exerts on the UK national grid.In a new report, the Green Alliance notes a 56% surge in sales of electric cars last year compared with 2015, and predicted that falling production costs would contribute to continued and rapidly increasing demand. Calling on government to design a smarter power system, the repo rt warns of ‘brownouts’ at local neighbourhood level, when “just six electric cars charging in close proximity at peak time could overload the grid and disrupt the power supply”.The Green Alliance report is urging the government to intervene so that the full benefits of more accessible small scale energy trends can benefit all of society.“We are entering a new era where the consumer really can take control,” the report says, pointing out that electric car charging was entirely unmanaged, and calling for an alternative solution to those attempted by governments in Hawaii (which prevented blackouts by blocking residential solar) and Nevada (which punished grid defectors with retrospectiveSuch a tipping point for government in the UK could occur as early as 2020, the group suggests, when electric cars and solar will be viable without subsidy, creating an attractive incentive for owners of commercial buildings, for example, to go solar.Along with falling costs for electric c ars, batteries and solar power, the report notes a number of key trends and imminent milestones, including: Tesla’s market value surpassing that of General Motors in the US; the falling price of battery storage; and the projection that IKEA will be a net exporter of its own solar and wind energy by 2020.All of these will by 2025 make it possible for homeowners to supply their own electricity off-grid for months at a time, using a combination of solar and car batteries, the Alliance predicts.Green Alliance acting policy director, Dustin Benton, said that a lack of action at a time when “small scale energy is growing rapidly because consumers are choosing it regardless of government subsidy” had already led to “blackouts and billion pound losses for unprepared governments”.“It won’t be any different for the UK. But it doesn’t have to be this way”, Benton added, saying that with the right policy, EVs and solar could help “keep the lights on” and cut consumer bills .“Political parties need to outline how the large scale energy the UK needs and the small scale energy people want, can work better together,” Benton added. This week, a spokesman for the National Grid  told the  Guardian newspaper  acknowledged that increasing use of electric cars and solar power would change the way energy was managed, but insisted that “National Grid has  been consistently dealing with evolution in the energy sector for decades, and these latest changes also present great opportunities”.“For example, electric vehicles can be used to help feed energy back into the system at key times, while solar power will play a crucial role in providing clean energy as coal-generated power stops being used.”Green Alliance is a charity and independent think tank focused on ambitious leadership for the environment. Since 1979, it has been working with a network of influential leaders in business, NGOs and politics to stimulate new thinking on environmental policy, and increase political action and support for environmental solutions in the UK.Read the full report online here.
